About Talavera Tile
The decorative tiles we carry are called "Talavera" tiles, named after the region in Spain that was famous for producing this style of ceramics. While "talavera" tiles are strictly Mexican, they fall under the broader catagory of ceramics known as majolica. Here is a little information about the tile and its uses:
- First and foremost, talavera tile is rustic. It is completely hand-made, and tends not to be exactly square. Individual tiles may vary in size. They are almost always a little warped. They often have very small chips on the sides. We do examine tiles individually before shipping and cull out "seconds." The individuality of each tile is part of the overall charm these tiles create.
- Talavera tile has many uses. Bathroom countertops (not recommended for kitchen countertops because it's rather soft), table tops, backsplashes, tiled areas behind stoves...
- This tile is not appropriate for use in floors and should not be used outdoors in climates that experience freezing temperatures.
- Shipping Costs: If you are ordering substantial quantities of tile, please read About Shipping
